Here’s what Bo from New York had to say about his experience at the 2016 Maryland Folk Musicians Retreat:
I had the pleasure of attending the 2016 Folk Musicians Retreat on the East Shore of Maryland and it turned out to be more than I hoped for.
The facility lends itself to learning: It is clean, new, quiet and very well air conditioned. The staff is very helpful and friendly. In fact many seemed to enjoy having our music fill the retreat center. The food is good and the rooms are clean and comfortable. It is only a short walk to the shore where there is a small sandy beach for your enjoyment (see sunset picture below).
But what made the retreat for me were the people that came — everyone came to learn and to share. Yes, there were some very skilled teachers there, but all the teaching was done in the attitude of sharing/giving, no way like a College lecture from a Professor.
We were given the space to play, learn, and yes, for those of us scared to do so, sing. So if i feel safe singing you must accept the fact that it was a wonderful/accepting atmosphere for learning.
I hope to be there next year and to meet some old friends and make some new ones.
